The Legend of Korra season 2, episode 4 ‘Civil Wars, Part 2’

The episode opens up as Korra’s parents are brought into jail after the events of the ending of the last episode. Korra tells her uncle that he’s making a mistake, but he assures her that he’s justified. He also lets her know that Judge Kotak will take over as mayor.

Asami, Mako, and Bolin are all hanging around, waiting for Varrick to confirm a business deal for Future Industries. Bolin comments that he’s happy Eska doesn’t know where he is.

On cue, twin cousins of Korra, Desna and Eska barge in and demand to know where Varrick is, explaining that there’s an arrest warrant for him. Mako concludes from the twins that Korra’s parents have already been taken into custody.

As the twins leave to go and search further for the eccentric businessman, Eska demands that Bolin bows to his girlfriend as she leaves the room, to which he obliges.

Bolin heeds to Eska’s demands…

Asami let’s Bolin know that she should stand up for himself, and Bolin lets them know that Mako’s advice didn’t work. Varrick’s voice is heard in the room, and it’s revealed that he’s inside of the hide of a platypus bear with his assistant Ju Lee to hide from Unalaq.

Varrick offers Bolin some money in exchange for keeping his fellow rebels out of jail.

Back at the Southern Air Temple, Tenzin’s search for Ikki continues. He finds her talking to baby flying bison, with whom she’s made friends with. When she notices her father, she asks if she has to go, but touched by her innocence and happiness away from her teasing siblings, he joins their tea party. Ikki let’s Tenzin know that they’re her knew siblings, and Tenzin asks if they can be the same for him.

At a hearing for all of those arrested for the attempted kidnapping, Bolin unknowingly gives Varrick’s bribery money to sleazy men watching the trial. Judge Kotak comes on the scene as Korra’s uncle recounts being captured. Korra is questioned if those held at trial were at the rebel meeting, and if it was at Korra’s parent’s house. Bolin tries to interrupt to assure that it is a mistrial. Korra tries to say that her parents are innocent, but doesn’t seem to succeed.

Bolin finds Eska in the hallway, and admits to her that their “spark is fading.” Eska agrees that it’s fading, and assures him that this’ll be solved by their marriage at dusk.

Back in the courtroom, Korra’s mom is found innocent, but all of the rest of those on trial are to be killed as punishment for treason.

Korra tells the judge that she’ll kill him if he kills the rebels. Unalaq asks the judge to reconsider and to show the rebels mercy, to which the judge changes their punishment to life in prison. Korra thanks Unalaq for lowering their sentence.

Cutting back to Ikki and Tenzin, he comments that he could get used to it here, and after Ikki states that she likes her uncle and aunt, Tenzin turns cold. He tries to convince her that her siblings are also awesome, to which they agree that being a part of a family is hard. They observe the bison finding their mama and papa bison. Ikki comments that family will always be there no matter the fight, and assures her dad that they’ll go back there.

Korra and her mother greet Tonraq, to which the Avatar suggests that they break him out. He makes her promise that she won’t do anything rash. Korra’s mom is crying at the sink as Korra assures her that it’ll be okay.

The judge is shown driving on a cliffside as Korra tracks after him on Naga. She runs the judge’s car into the mountainside, and begins to threaten him with Naga. He admits that he was only following Unalaq’s orders, and that he only had to pretend that the trial was fair. He also reveals that her uncle was the one that got her father banished.

Bumi talks to Aang’s statue in the Avatar statue room, apologizing for not being an Airbender. Kya arrives and assures him that Aang would be proud.

Korra tells Varick, Asami and Mako that Unalaq hired the barbarians to attack the tribe, and then go into the Spirit Forest so that Tonraq would follow. Korra states that she’s going to bust the rebels out of jail with the help of her friends.

Bolin and Pabu arrive wearing garb similar to Eska and Desna. Bolin announces that they’re going to get married that night, to which Varrick tells him that he’ll help him get out of it.

That night, a guard walking down a hallway is shocked by Asami’s glove. Upon arriving at Tonraq’s cell, Unalaq shows up to tell her that she’ll never see her father again.

Korra demands to know where her father is, and Unalaq tells her that he’s on a ship to the Northern Water Tribe. When she threatens to attack them, he lets her know that she can’t do so as the Avatar. She calls him out for being powerhungry, and lets him know that she doesn’t want his help anymore.

Unalaq retaliates that she’s served her purpose and that he doesn’t need her anymore to open up the Northern Sprit Portal. Korra attacks Unalaq, and with Mako’s help, disables him.

Bolin walks down the street with Varrick hidden in the animal hide, and is able to distract the crowd with money to get through. They meet up with Team Avatar, as some of them go into a plane on Varrick’s boat to get past the barricade. Asami takes pilot, with Korra and Mako using their Firebending on the wings to power the airplane faster.

Korra goes into the Avatar state and Waterbends a path clear for those of Varrick’s crew still on the boat. A hilarious moment ensues when a guard notices Bolin hugging what appears to be the giant bear that is Varrick’s disguise.

Korra sees the ship her father is in, after which she has Asami crash-land the plane into the water. Korra attacks the guards on board, and demands to know where the prisoners are. Tonraq is reunited with his daughter, while the rebels fight their way off of the prison ship.

Back at the air temple, Tenzin arrives back home with Ikki. Ikki’s siblings apologize and begin to play Air Ball with her. Tenzin also apologizes to his siblings, and admits that he might’ve overlooked when Aang wasn’t a good father to them. Kya shows the group a picture of the Kataang family from when the children where babies.

Tonraq states that it’s time to put his brother in his place, and gains his group’s support. He tells Korra that she can’t immediately fight, because she has to get the President of the United Republic to use the United Forces to fight on Tonraq’s side of the war. Korra and her father hug and let each other know that they love one another.

Bolin thanks Korra for breaking up him and Eska via the war, as Varrick notices a furious Eska Waterbending toward the escaping Varrick boat.
