As The Legend of Korra season 2 continues, a sneak peek has been released from this Friday’s episode, “Civil Wars, Part 1.”

The premiere episodes of The Legend of Korra season 2 gave fans a lot to chew on. In anticipation of this week’s episode, a new clip from 2×03 “Civil Wars, Part 1” adds depth to suggested tensions between Aang and Katara’s grown children.

Legend of Korra: “The Favorite Child”

The sneak peek begins with Tenzin relaxing in the Southern Air Temple with his wife Pema and infant son Rohan. His tranquil moment is soon interrupted by the boisterous arrival of his older brother Bumi, who has forgotten what the tie around his robe is for.

Tenzin admits that he’s having a good time on the trip, and reminisces about vacations the factions he and his siblings took with their father, Aang. Unfortunately, Kya and Bumi cast some cold light on Tenzin’s rosy memories about those childhood trips. Instead of family vacations, only Aang and Tenzin traveled together, while the older siblings stayed behind.

This is a fascinating piece of information to learn about “the Kataang kids,” and helps explain a lot of Bumi and Kya’s hostile attitude toward their little brother. While we have to assume that Aang had good reasons for paying special attention to Tenzin – teaching him airbending, for one – it’s deeply poignant to see how much pain Aang’s mistakes caused his other children.

The title of the two-part episode, “Civil Wars,” probably refers mostly to the presumed battle between the Northern and Southern Water Tribes, but we can’t help but wonder if there may be a miniature “civil war” raging at the same time between Tenzin and his siblings.

The summary for “Civil Wars, Part 1” focuses on Korra’s experience as the Water Tribes clash.

Korra tries to remain neutral as tensions flare between the Northern and Southern Water Tribes.

“Civil Wars, Part 1” will air this Friday at 7 pm on Nickelodeon. In the meantime, check out SeptBender, Hypable’s celebration of all things Legend of Korra, which carries on through the month of September!
