The Legend of Korra co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino are scheduled to reunite for an Avatar panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

The panel is a joint venture between Nickelodeon and Dark Horse Comics, who have published the canonical graphic novels which continue the story of Avatar Aang. Fans have wondered since the conclusion of The Legend of Korra whether or not that series would have a future on the printed page, and while the panel is no confirmation, it certainly seems like a good sign.

The panel description focuses on the reunion element (no pun intended) of the event. Fans are invited to “Come celebrate Nickelodeon’s Avatar universe with the brilliant minds who created it all: co creators and executive producers Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.”

“At the panel,” the blurb teases, “Mike and Bryan will discuss past storylines and tease the future at a panel full of surprises and behind-the-scenes stories.”

DiMartino and Konitezko’s panel will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10. Unlike past years, when The Legend of Korra fans converged in Ballroom 20 (the second largest hall in the convention center) this year’s convergence will collect in the smaller Room 25ABC.

Still, a more modest setting will hardly dull the enthusiasm of fans of The Legend of Korra and Avatar: The Last Airbender. It is a surprise of itself that Konietzko and DiMartino are appearing at San Diego Comic-Con, as the final book of The Legend of Korra concluded in December. Given the news that the co-creators have closed the book on the Avatar universe, and are working on different projects, it is especially exciting for fans to hear Bryke talk about their work together again.

Fans of Avatar universe will also be able to collect a few pieces of exclusive merchandise at the convention. A beautiful statue of Lin Beifong will be on sale, as well an art print of Korra and Aang which will be certain to tug on the heartstrings (and perhaps wallets) of fans on the convention floor.
