New preview pages have been released for The Legend of Korra: The Art of the Animated Series, offering a sneak peek at the development of Korra, Mako, and other key elements of the show.

The Legend of Korra: The Art of the Animated Series, a book of conceptual and development art for Book 1 of Nickelodeon’s hit series The Legend of Korra will be released by booksellers on Aug. 6. In the meanwhile, a set of new preview pages have recently been released from the art book, showing fans a different side of the characters we’ve grown to love.

Though the scans are a bit too distant to make out the descriptive captions (written by The Legend of Korra co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino, along with producer Joaquim Dos Santos) it’s still very cool to see the artistic evolution of characters like Korra, Mako, and Bolin. The two brothers look especially different in their earlier incarnations, with Mako rocking a vest and frock coat (along with a gray scarf!) and Bolin adorably pudgy. From other sketches, it looks like Bolin’s hair was a subject of some debate among the creators, though we have more qualms with the artist who decided to draw the final version of Bolin… wearing nothing but a thong.

Earlier in the year, two more preview pages from the Legend of Korra art were released, featuring sketches and history for the show’s animal contingent Naga and Pabu. The final cover art for The Legend of Korra: The Art of the Animated Series, which will consist of 144 pages of art and commentary, was also recently unveiled.
