The newly-released The Legend of Korra soundtrack has become a best-seller on Amazon.
The Legend of Korra: The Official Soundtrack reached the number one spot on Amazon.com’s best-seller list yesterday, the same day as its release. The news was picked up by excited fans, and was reiterated by composer Jeremy Zuckerman (who along with Benjamin Wynn makes up The Track Team) in this tweet.
Bryan Konietzko posted on his Tumblr about the success of Book 1’s original soundtrack. “Congratulations to Jeremy Zuckerman on yesterday’s release of his soundtrack The Legend of Korra: Original Music From Book One,” writes Konietzko.
“After the years-long battle to get Jeremy’s music released, it is incredibly vindicating to see this album climb and top the charts (currently sitting at #1 in Soundtracks and #5 in Pop on Amazon).”
Konietzko also shared a picture of Zuckerman and “the multi-instrumentalist behind the nuanced performances of many of the traditional Chinese instruments featured in the Korra score” Hong Wang.
The news of the Legend of Korra soundtrack’s success is particularly significant to both fans and the creative team behind The Legend of Korra because of the difficulties faced in producing a soundtrack for Avatar: The Last Airbender. The predecessor to The Legend of Korra, Avatar: The Last Airbender was also scored by Jeremy Zuckerman.
In spite of multiple fan petitions and much effort on the part of the show’s creators, a soundtrack for Avatar: The Last Airbender was never released.
But in light of the success of The Legend of Korra soundtrack, that may be changing. Co-creator indicated that a soundtrack for Avatar: The Last Airbender was still a possibility if the Legend of Korra soundtrack sold well – as it is clearly doing.
Meanwhile, Zuckerman and Wynn will be signing the Legend of Korra soundtrack at San Diego Comic-Con this Saturday. The majority of The Legend of Korra‘s cast and crew will also be in attendance at the show’s official panel on Friday, including Bryan Konietzko, Mike DiMartino, and the voice of Korra herself, Janet Varney.
