New art from The Legend of Korra co-creator Bryan Konietzko shows Korra and Asami sharing an adorable romantic moment.

The piece, titled “Turtle-Duck Date Night,” depicts Korra and Asami cuddling on a turtle-duck boat ride. “Turtle-Duck Date Night” is the first explicitly romantic piece of art featuring Korra and Asami that has come from an official source on The Legend of Korra.

Both Konietzko and co-creator Mike DiMartino have been explicitly clear that the final scenes of The Legend of Korra solidify Korra and Asami’s romantic relationship as canon.

“Korrasami is canon,” Konietzko wrote, just after the series’ conclusion. “There is no denying it. That is the official story… Korra and Asami fell in love.”

Given his vocal support for the Avatar-verse’s first same-sex relationship, it makes sense that Konietzko chose to make Korra and Asami the focus of the piece.

“Turtle-Duck Date Night” was created for an exhibition at Gallery Nucleus in Los Angeles, which will honor the art of The Legend of Korra and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Both official art and fan creations will been included in the gallery, the opening of which will be attended by Bryan Konietzko, Mike DiMartino, and crew members from both Avatar series.

Fans lucky enough to attend the opening on March 7 will be able to purchase a highly-limited print of “Turtle-Duck Date Night,” and have the piece signed by the co-creators. As an added bonus, all of Konietzko’s proceeds from the piece will be donated an LGBTQ Suicide Prevention hotline.

As for everyone else? Well, we can gaze wistfully at Konietzko’s tender artistic vision for this come-from-behind couple… and maybe write up some fan fiction about date nights on turtle-duck boats.
