Though there has been little major news about The Legend of Korra in recent months, a few bits and pieces of information regarding the series (and the continuing story of Avatar: The Last Airbender) have recently surfaced to whet the appetites of Avatar fans.

First in the trickle of information comes a welcome tidbit from Bryan Konietzko (co-creator of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, along with Mike Dante DiMartino) regarding the recent discovery that a DVD for The Legend of Korra is in the works.

“Just had a fun DVD commentary session for Book 1,” Konietzko wrote on his Tumblr, confirming that the DVD will at least include commentaries as far as special features go. Recording along with Konietzko were Janet Varney (the voice of Korra), David Faustino (Mako), and Mike DiMartino; there has not yet been any word on whether other cast members will be recording commentary as well.

In related news, The Legend of Korra‘s Book 1 DVD is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The listing features some nifty art, though it is unclear whether or not this will serve as the official cover for the set. No release date has yet been announced.

Elsewhere in Avatar news, The Legend of Korra has been nominated for two Annie awards. Premiere episodes “Welcome to Republic City” and “A Leaf in the Wind” are up for Best Animated Television Production and Best Character Design in an Animated Television Production. Avatar: The Last Airbender won Annie awards in each of its three seasons, so the team behind The Legend of Korra should feel right at home when the winners are announced on Feb. 2.

Finally, the Avatar universe will participate in Dark Horse’s Free Comic Book Day for 2013. Next year’s comic will focus on Zuko’s on-again-off-again girlfriend Mai, “as she deals with her broken heart.”

The new (seemingly untitled) comic will be written by Gene Luen Yang, author of The Promise and The Search comics; Avatar newcomer Ryan Hill will handle the artwork. Readers can pick up Mai’s emotionally turbulent (and hopefully just a little bit violent) story from participating comic book stores on Free Comic Book Day, May 14, 2013.

Though no other news has so far been made public about The Legend of Korra, fans can look forward to Revolution, the first part of the series’ junior novelization, which will be released Jan. 8. Later on in the year, the first part of the long-anticipated comic The Search will hit stores on March 20.
