A new clip from an upcoming episode of The Legend of Korra season 2 introduces the first Avatar. Plus, more news about the Legend of Korra panel at New York Comic Con!

A new sneak peek has been released from an upcoming episode of The Legend of Korra season 2, giving fans their longest look yet at Wan, the very first Avatar.

The clip comes from Entertainment Weekly and features Korra’s introduction to the spirit of a young man named Wan, who lived 10,000 years in the past.

Legend of Korra: “Avatar Wan”

While looking lost in the Spirit World, Korra asks the young man if he is someone else she seems to be looking for.

“No,” he says. “But I can help you find her. My name is Wan, and I will show you how I became the first Avatar.”

Wan’s spirit then joins with his mortal life, where he is running through the streets of a small city. Wan is being chased by three portly brothers in Fire Nation-esque clothing, apparently having stolen from them. Fleet-footed, quipy and generally Aladdin-like, Wan nimbly evades capture until an unfortunately-timed stumble leaves him – still grinning – in the oldest brother’s grip.

The clip is clearly from the two-part episode “Beginnings,” which will explore the origins of the Avatar. As is clear from the clip, “Beginnings” is animated in an unusual style to enhance the ancient atmosphere of the episode.

Wan is voiced by Steven Yeun of The Walking Dead. Yeun’s work in the role clearly impressed The Legend of Korra‘s co-creator Bryan Konietzko. Yeun “did a brilliant voice-over job,” Konietzko wrote on his Tumblr account, “And he is a really nice, hard-working guy dedicated to his craft.”

In addition, EW announced that Yeun will join Konietzko, Janet Varney (Korra) and PJ Byrne (Bolin) on the Legend of Korra panel at this weekend’s New York Comic Con. “We will be screening the first of two episodes” that make up “Beginnings,” Konietzko confirmed. The panel will be held at 11:00 on Stage 1E in the Javits Convention Center.

This week, The Legend of Korra season 2 continues with “The Sting:”

When Triad activity threatens to put Future Industries out of business, Mako performs an investigation and uncovers a conspiracy.

The Legend of Korra airs on Fridays at 8:30 pm on Nickelodeon.
