What now? After last week’s sudden departure The Leftovers will deal with the consequences of Kevin’s drastic attempt to get rid of Patti.

The Leftovers season 2, episode 8, “Internal Assassin,” has a ton of milage to cover for a town that does not spread too wide across Texas. Last week, Kevin tiptoed closer and closer to his death as he went around the town looking for Nora, berating hardware store employees, and giving over his palm print to John Murphy to assist him in finding a match to the one on the departed girl’s car.

ICYMI: The Leftovers 2×07 recap: Is (spoiler) really dead?

What happened to Kevin?

A visit to Virgil, the Murphy’s excommunicated grandfather, offers Kevin a release from Patti Levin’s presence in his life. In order to confront Patti, Kevin must meet her on her playing field — in the afterlife.

Virgil has a plan in place that involves temporarily killing Kevin and then reviving him just before his brain is deprived of oxygen for too long. Kevin takes the poison, but Virgil has other plans for Kevin’s future. Dumping out the epinephrine meant to revive Kevin, Virgil watches the life leave his body before shooting himself in the head.

Michael enters the trailer to take away Kevin’s body. But where is he heading with it? Is he going to bury it in the woods? Dump it in the empty ravine? Deliver it to Nora?

Tonight, Nora and the rest of the town must come to terms with the loss of the Garvey patriarch. With Laurie still hanging out in their home with Jill, how will she factor into the tragedy?

Watch The Leftovers season 2, episode 8, “Internal Assassin,” tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO.
