The Leftovers season 2 will air on HBO in the summer of 2015. Showrunner, Damon Lindelof has some insider information for those who cannot wait!

The Leftovers second season may not be on viewers radar right now, but that does not mean the creative team is sitting idly by. The first season relied heavily on the source material, a novel by the same title written by Tom Perrotta. However, the first season used all it could leaving the creative team, which includes Perrotta, to stare down an empty storyboard ready to advance the lives of the characters from Mapleton, NY.

In an interview with TV Line, Lindelof teases the return of, arguably, the show’s best character from season 1. Ann Dowd, who portrays the silent leader of the Guilty Remnant, Patti, took her own life in the penultimate episode of the freshman season.

Lindelof offers, “We try to approach these shows as writers, with our fan hats on. I would want to see more of Ann Dowd, and that character had such an immense impact and power over the first season. I think she’s got more to say. So I’ll just leave it at that.”

Leaving Kevin to suffer under the weight of her parting words, the series does have the potential to bring back the character in a few ways. Dream sequences and flashbacks are two obvious tactics to consider when working through the death trap.

Tired of hearing all about Mapleton, NY when the entirety of mankind is out there living in a post-Departure world? Well Lindelof has that concern in mind as well saying, “The first season was very focused on this one place, but the idea of the show lends itself to a larger, more macro view. Even though it’s ultimately a character-centric story, we’re talking about exploring the premise of the show a little bit more this year.”

Perhaps the show is best centered around one family’s story within the wider world. There are still so many questions that need answering, and we’re not talking about “Why did the Departure happen?” If you want that answer, you had better find another show to watch, hints Lindelof. “It’s very liberating to finally be working on a show that promises no answers. The Leftovers — and ultimately, it’s why I love Tom’s book so much — is about living in a world of ambiguous mystery, which we all live in. We don’t know what happens when we die…If you’re looking for answers, The Americans is an excellent show. [Laughs] I would recommend you watch it.”

The questions we have tend to be Garvey centric and may be answered in good time. Hopefully in The Leftovers season 2 will will found out what Tommy’s plan is now that he and his mother have reunited. The writers are just entering the idea bouncing stage, but it seems as though the Garvey’s will be the central focus of the series going forward. Lindelof says, “I definitely think the continuing saga of this family is something that we’re very interested in.”

As for the answer to Nora’s next move after her plan to run away takes a sudden detour when she finds Holy Wayne’s baby on the front steps of Kevin’s house, you may not need to wait long to find out. In another spoiler tidbit, Lindelof teases, “Both characters have a tremendous amount of damage, and that stuff isn’t immediately apparent when you’re first falling in love with someone. But once you’re together with them, you actually have to start the work, and they’re going to start engaging in it.”

Does that mean Nora is sticking around? We put our bets on the affirmative!
