The Leftovers season 1, episode 10 “The Prodigal Son Returns” airs tonight. Here are eight things we want to see happen.
Did you forget about Tommy and the protection of Holy Wayne’s scattered love children? Well, The Leftovers is not going to force you to wait until next season for the answer to that storyline, but what about the rest of the Mapleton residents?
Ahead of the finale tonight, we put together a list of the loose ends we hope to tie up by the close of the season.
Fall Out From the Woods:
When we last left Kevin, he was holding the lifeless body of Patti in an abandoned cabin in Cairo, NY following her suicide. Dean abandoned him after Kevin chose to let Patti live and cell service is practically nonexistent. No matter what tale Kevin is able to spin, the situation does not promise a triumphant return for the police chief.
Memorial Day:
The white binder with M.D. containing in depth analysis of the Departed members of Mapleton contains the plan for the Guilty Remnant’s Memorial Day. The execution for the day has been going on throughout the season. The Christmas Eve raid of photos, the delivery of the body bags to the GR’s church, and now, Laurie’s all to knowing final nod to Patti, will hopefully find their connection in tonight’s finale.
Part of the Plan?
How will Patti’s death play off to the remainder Mapleton? The Guilty Remnant’s new head honcho, Laurie, is not in a position to verbally defend her ex-husband against the rumor mill of accusations that will likely follow his return home.
The Prodigal Daughter Leaves:
At the close of episode 8, Jill enters the GR’s headquarters looking for a place to “stay for a while.” Much to Laurie’s surprise, Meg agrees to welcome her into their ranks, at least as a new initiate. How will this play out for Kevin when he returns to find that he lost the final member of his family?
Tommy Who?
Seen briefly in the last episode’s flashbacks, Tommy’s journey to Holy Wayne still remains a bit of a mystery. His happy-go-lucky attitude around his nuclear family was something we have not seen since his first flirty moments with Christine on the ranch. Hopefully, if not tonight, next season we see a Tommy centric episode that explores his downfall following the Departure.
Oh Baby, Baby:
Oh, right, Kevin’s son is also on the run with an infant. What exactly is Tommy going to do now that Christine has given birth? (Remember that? In the bathtub? Yes, it was gross.) There is also the mystery of the other Holy Wayne offspring that Tommy recently discovered.
Wandering Holy Man:
Holy Wayne has yet to be seen in a scenario where he does not look like he has been wandering the desert for forty days. Besides a few Paypal payments brought in by his wondering recruiters, it appears that Holy Wayne may be more talk than a legitimate savior.
The Voices:
Kevin Garvey Sr. has voices in his head. While this is not new information, the voices have hinted that they have a plan in mind for his son. How much agency are viewers willing to give to the National Geographic pushing voices? That depends on what else in the series you choose to give agency.

‘The Prodigal Son Returns’ synopsis
“An unexpected ally helps Kevin get out of a jam near the town of Cairo. Meanwhile, an elaborate Memorial Day initiative by the Guilty Remnant plunges Mapleton into chaos. Holy Wayne grants a final wish; Tom copes with his new reality; Nora makes a life-changing decision.”
The final teaser for tonight’s episode hints that maybe some of our questions will be answered!
