The Leftovers stills and clips from the latest episode delve into a character who has, until now, lurked in the shadows. Meet Reverend Matt Jamison in this week’s preview.

Reverend Matt Jamison, played by Christopher Eccleston, introduces his spiritual offering to the town of Mapleton on this week’s season 1, episode 3, “Two Boats and a Helicopter.” Fan’s of the Doctor Who‘s Ninth Doctor and Thor‘s Malekith, will not want to miss his performance on this week’s episode.

Synopsis

In the face of dwindling church attendance and threats on his life, Reverend Matt Jamison (Christopher Eccleston) continues to preach his gospel: that many who disappeared in the Departure were sinners and not saints. Matt’s campaign is detoured when he learns that he may lose the church to foreclosure, forcing him to launch a desperate, last-minute plan to come up with the cash to keep it.

Earlier this season, a teaser trailer for the series contained a sermon, delivered by Reverend Matt, as the backdrop. The Leftovers‘ premise explores the question, “What does it mean that I remain?”

The Reverend’s belief that all sinners were taken from the Earth raises some red flags among those left behind who watched as infants were taken and murderers remained.
