The Leftovers takes viewers deeper inside the Guilty Remnant this week, take a look at the stills and synopsis for this week’s episode.

The job of a series premiere, ideally, is to set the viewer in the world of the creators’ imagination. Following last week’s introductory episode, The Leftovers season 1, episode 2, “Penguin One, Us Zero,” beings to delve into the story lines of the intertwined characters.

A ‘Who’s Who’ of ‘The Leftovers’

Kevin Garvey: The chief of police in Mapleton, NY, took over the job after his father went crazy following the Sudden Departure.

Jill Garvey: Daughter of Kevin, experimenting in drugs and wild parties to numb the pain of her mother’s departure from the family.

Tom Garvey: Son of Kevin, left the family to follow Holy Wayne, a religious extremist who believes that he has the power to hug away the pain.

Laurie Garvey: Kevin’s wife who left the family in order to join The Guilty Remnant, a cult that wears only white, chain smokes, and has taken a vow of silence. The serve as reminders of the Sudden Departure so that people can never forget.

Meg: A woman who, after being followed by Laurie and another member of the Guilty Remnant, decides to leave behind her fiancé to join them.

Season 1, episode 2 synopsis

In the wake of a series of disturbing encounters, Kevin pays a visit to a therapist. Tom finds himself in a precarious situation with Christine (Annie Q), a favorite of Wayne’s. A frustrated Meg is asked to part with pieces of her past. Jill and Aimee tail Nora Durst (Carrie Coon), who became a local celebrity when her entire family disappeared in the Departure.
