The Late Late Show With James Corden premiered last night. But the British comedian doesn’t have high hopes for its future.

Did you watch James Corden’s Late Late Show debut episode? Mila Kunis and Tom Hanks guest starred — and James Corden sits on the left. How very British of him.

We thought his first episode was great. Check out a short clip below, in which Mila Kunis makes a surprising confession (and the three of them share a whole lot of laughs):

Despite the fact that Corden is clearly a natural at this, he is very aware of the fact that no one in America really knows who he is.

In an interview with Radio Times, Corden admits that he’s unsure about how the show will be received.

“I’m not holding out a huge amount of hope,” he says candidly. “I’ll be back in no time. This show will be cancelled in a heartbeat, believe me.”

However, the ever humble Brit isn’t going to let that stop him.

“If it doesn’t work – which is very likely – then I don’t think we’ll have lost anything because it’s not what I do, or what I’ve ever done,” he says. “Hopefully [me and my family will] just have a real nice time living in the sunshine for a bit.”

The 36-year-old actor and comedian is best known for the British TV series Gavin and Stacey, and for his memorable, recurring Doctor Who character Craig Owens (father of the self-proclaimed Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All… also known as Baby Alfie).

While we wish Corden all the best with his new career, hey, we wouldn’t say no to him taking a turn as a Doctor Who companion!
