Now that we finally have a The Last of Us 2 release date, the wait for the PlayStation exclusive somehow seems all the longer.

Update October 25: The Last of Us Part II will face a three month delay. Read director Neil Druckmann’s statement on the game’s delayed release here.

The Last of Us 2 release date was teased by series director Neil Druckmann. Druckmann took to Twitter to state that “We’ve been silent for too long.” At that, Mr. Druckmann, we agree.

Back in April, Druckmann shared a heartwarming behind-the-scenes snapshot taken after the very last motion capture shot for The Last of Us 2. It is fitting that the last shot of the game was that of Joel and Ellie actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson hugging it out. With a champagne glass in hand, Baker kisses the top of Johnson’s head, as both actors, covered in their motion-capture dots and donning the mocap suits, look both teary-eyed, yet somehow still exalted.

The end of the second title in the series is bound to be emotional, with Druckmann stating that “Tears were shed…” come the final “ambitious cinematic” scenes.

We’re ready for all of the emotional punches of the finale, seeing as the opening of the first game laid on the heavy feels right from the get-go. The Last of Us is a masterclass in storytelling that borders on misery porn, but is still able to draw you back in with genuine, heartwarming performances, and epic, satisfying action sequences. Until February, beware the Clickers.
