Looks like Naughty Dog’s super popular zombie game The Last of Us is getting a sequel after all!

Ever since The Last of Us was released for PS3 in 2013, fans have been begging Naughty Dog for a sequel.

The game, widely celebrated as one of the best games of all time, follows main characters Joel (Troy Baker) and Ellie (Ashley Johnson) as they journey through a post-apocalyptic America, which is overrun with zombie-like “infected.”

Although the game was a huge success (and remastered for PS4 in 2014), the developers have been cagey about whether or not they’d ever do a sequel.

Not only is The Last of Us very much a standalone gaming experience, but Naughty Dog has also been busy working on their Uncharted series. The fourth and last installment, A Thief’s End, is currently in development, and is expected in early 2016.

Director Neil Druckmann, who also took over A Thief’s End when the previous director left the company, has stated many times that the odds of The Last of Us 2 were 50/50 — and either way, a decision wouldn’t be made until Uncharted was complete.

Now, however, it seems the cat’s out of the bag.

Uncharted voice actor Nolan North, who also had a small role in The Last of Us, participated in an Indy PopCon panel over the weekend.

And when asked if he had any more projects lined up at Naughty Dog, he said, “I know they’re doing Last of Us 2, but my character [in the first game] kind of met an untimely demise.”

That sure sounds like a confirmation to us!

However, one of The Last of Us‘ lead actors, Troy Baker, was also at Indy PopCon. And according to him, “I don’t know if we’re gonna do another one or not.”

Baker added that if Druckmann and his team were to pick Joel and Ellie’s story back up, he hoped they had a good story to tell.

So is ‘The Last of Us 2’ happening or not?

With the two voice actors delivering conflicting reports, we suppose the odds are still technically 50/50.

However, according to Polygon, a character artist at Secret Six has also indicated that they’re working on The Last of Us 2.

So either these people have been misinformed, or Naughty Dog has failed to communicate the need for secrecy.

While we’re sure Naughty Dog would prefer to keep the project under wraps until they’re ready to make a big announcement, we’re very excited about the possibility of The Last of Us 2! The first game is astonishing.
