As attendees of the PAX East 2020 conference in Boston will be given the rare opportunity to play a Last of Us 2 demo, the game’s co-director has some high praise for the Naughty Dog adventure title.

Update February 22: Citing safety issues relating to “increasing concerns related to COVID-19” (colloquially referred to as Coronavirus), Sony will no longer attend the Pax EAST 2020 conference. This means that The Last of Us 2 will no longer have a demo on the showfloor. Original story follows below.

The Last of Us 2 demo will be run for around an hour in length, which is quite the impressive runtime for a convention floor attraction.

The segment of the game that lucky fans will be able to play is called “Patrol,” and will follow Ellie and Dina as they clear Infected on the outskirts of a snowy Jacksonville. We’ve seen the end results of this sequence… and it isn’t sitting right with many fans.

To play the Last of Us 2 demo, fans need to sign up in the PlayStation Experience mobile app when the PAX East event registration opens up on February 27.

In a tweet about the coming action/adventure game, Last of Us 2 co-director Anthony Newman had the following to say.

The Last of Us 2 will undoubtedly be one of the most popular and influential titles of 2020. In a move that hasn’t been seen in triple-a games since titles like FFVII for PS1 and Tales of Symphonia for the GameCube, the game will be produced on two Blu-Ray discs. And apparently, just when you think the game has reached its conclusion, you will quickly realize that what you played was only the intro, tease the game’s creators.

Perhaps we’ll learn a bit more about what else the title will do to “redefine triple-a” in the coming PAX East The Last of Us 2 demo. The convention runs from February 27 through March 1, with tickets for the Boston convention still availble for all days but Saturday. Naughty Dog title The Last of Us 2 releases exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on May 29, 2020.
