‘The Last Guy’ by Ilsa Madden-Mills and Tia Louise review:
I was surprised to learn that The Last Guy is Ilsa and Tia’s first adventure in romantic comedy, because you can’t tell at all while reading it. It was a light, fun read that had me smiling and laughing while I was digging into the story. Admittedly, there were a few parts that felt a little bit predictable but they didn’t take away from the overall entertainment factor of the novel.
It’s hard to tell who I liked more, Cade or Rebecca. Rebecca’s a really fun heroine, she’s definitely got flaws and despite saying she wants to work on certain aspects of her life has a hard time actually getting the motivation to do them. I can totally relate to her on that level.
Her obsession with good food (especially tacos) along with the constant battle of being in an industry where her appearance is important gives her an endearing factor. Add on the fact that she can’t seem to keep out of trouble at work no matter how hard she tries makes you want to cheer her up yourself, preferably with some of those tacos she loves.
Cade isn’t the typical jerky cock you’d expect, he’s definitely confident but that doesn’t overshadow his softer side. His protective instincts towards his family, especially his brother, makes him swoon worthy. The desire to help out the less fortunate kids, and his cute little kitty cat are just added bonuses. And when his protective instincts are turned on Rebecca’s it’s hard not to love him.
I wish I could more about some of the antics that go on in the novel, but I don’t want to give away too much. You’ll just have to take my word for it that some crazy, funny stuff goes down. It’s a good escape for those days when you want to get away from some real life things.
