We’re heading back to the future. ABC has ordered a live-action reboot of the classic animated series The Jetsons.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the pilot will be written by Family Guy and Will & Grace scribe Gary Janetti. The new Jetsons is “described as based on the original animated series” and “set 100 years in the future.” It “revolves around America’s favorite future family — told through a modern filter.”

Can the show really be set a century in the future while being told through a modern filter?

And while The Jetsons are a beloved family, it might be a bit jarring to see these characters in live-action form. Did it have to be live-action? And what the hell are they gonna do about Astro, the family dog?

If the live-action TV series isn’t your cup of tea, you can continue to hold out hope for an animated movie, which was reportedly in development at WB two years ago.

Will you give a live-action ‘Jetsons’ a try?
