According to Netflix, Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman has been watched by over 26 million households in its first week, with an anticipated 40 million in its first month.

Have you watched The Irishman yet?

If you have, you’d be part of the 26.4 million Netflix households worldwide that turned on and tuned in to the lengthy Martin Scorsese film.

Of course, these numbers only include those households which watched The Irishman to at least 70% completion, according to content chief Ted Sarandos. That means that viewership numbers could jump up in the next few weeks when people who decided to take a break at around the midway point — which is when most movies now would end — remember that they never finished the film and return to do just that.

Netflix is rather infamous for not releasing its viewership data, especially when it comes to cancelling critically acclaimed shows in its roster, but does dole out the bigger numbers here and there when it sees fit. That’s how we know that viral hit Bird Box netted 45 million Netflix household views in its first seven days, and that more than 40.7 million global household accounts had watched Stranger Things during the four-day Fourth of July weekend.

However, that looks like it may be changing, as Netflix says that it will plan to start regularly releasing viewing numbers publicly. However, Sarandos also said that the company “working to try to condition the market on what it means,” as “the company’s stats aren’t comparable to box-office figures or Nielsen ratings points.”

Still, the fact that Netflix decided to release the numbers for The Irishman points to the fact that the streamer is quite pleased with the movie’s performance, despite its $160+ million budget. Given the fact that the film has netted five Golden Globe awards in addition to its streaming numbers likely helps with that.

The Irishman was released Nov. 27 on Netflix after a limited theatrical run.
