After pulling the film from theaters worldwide and saying they have “no further plans” for it, Sony is reportedly planning to release The Interview online.

Update (8:00 pm eastern): Bob Lawson, a Sony spokesman, has revealed to Bloomberg that The Post’s report concerning releasing the film on Crackle isn’t accurate, and that the company is still in the process of exploring all of its options for distributing The Interview.

According to The New York Post, Sony is planning to put The Interview on Crackle, the streaming website that the studio owns. The movie will be free to watch.

A release date wasn’t reported by The Post, but presumably Sony and Crackle will have to make sure the site will be able to handle millions of people streaming the film simultaneously. They’ll also have to keep their plans private so North Korea doesn’t try to target Crackle (though it may be too late to do anything about that now that the news is out there).

The decision comes after President Obama said earlier this week that Sony’s decision to pull the film was “a mistake.” Shortly after his remarks, the studio’s CEO fired back by saying that they had no choice but to pull the film from theaters because chains were pulling out from running it. However, theaters had blamed Sony because of their “wavering” support, according to one theater chain.

Obama’s comments – which were carried across the world and were an embarrassing blow to Sony – may’ve pushed the studio to release it after all.

If Sony does release The Interview online, there’s the good chance that North Korea will retaliate by doing something like leaking more information. The FBI said that the threats North Korea made on theaters were not credible, so the only thing Kim Jong-Un could do is carry out more hacks.

“The GOP” said in a recent letter that they praised Sony’s “very wise” decision to pull the movie, but warned that the film cannot be released in the future in any way.

Additional hacks would only be successful if the media continues to run stories about what Sony’s internal conversations reveal. Without the media on their side, North Korea is wasting their time.

Everyone in America – media, government, and Sony namely – will have to band together to not let North Korea win.

America! F*** yeah!
