Universal’s The Hunt will go on to make its big screen debut six months after it was first set to premiere in theaters.

Universal’s The Hunt proves that getting cancelled isn’t just for celebrities on Twitter.

Originally set to premiere on September 27, 2019, The Hunt is a satirical thriller that depicts “elites” kidnapping and then hunting “deplorables.” The film initially pulled ads for the film out of respect in response to the mass shootings in Dayton and El Paso, but the controversy generated by conservative media for its concept led to its complete cancellation altogether.

However, the film has now been put back on the Universal movie slate, with a new date of Friday, March 13. In addition to setting a re-release date, Universal has likewise released a brand new trailer, one that pokes fun at the conservative response to the film.

Check out the new trailer for The Hunt below, followed by the official synopsis.

Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are, or how they got there. They don’t know they’ve been chosen… for a very specific purpose…The Hunt.

In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, a group of globalist elites gathers for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt humans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of the hunted, Crystal, knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman at the center of it all.

The Hunt stars GLOW actress and Emmy nominee Betty Gilpin and Oscar winner Hilary Swank, along with Ike Barinholtz (The Oath), Emma Roberts (American Horror Story), Justin Hartley (This is Us), and Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia).

The Hunt is written by Watchmen showrunner Damon Lindelof and The Leftovers scribe Nick Cuse and is directed by Craig Zobel (Z for Zachariah, The Leftovers).

The Hunt will arrive in theaters on March 13, 2020.
