With the release of Taylor Swift’s new song “Safe and Sound,” which will appear on The Hunger Games soundtrack, mixed reviews have come in. Some fans are going crazy about it, but a lot of fans are upset that Taylor Swift is representing The Hunger Games and are angered by the way Lionsgate is marketing this trilogy. However, Lionsgate has marketed this movie brilliantly and Taylor Swift is only helping that.

Listen to “You Belong with Me” and then listen to “Safe and Sound.” The songs are two completely different styles, and Taylor performs both beautifully. “Safe and Sound” is not like anything Taylor has done before and it fits The Hunger Games in so many different ways. Most debate is over which scene it could fit in and most fans admit that the song could be played in almost any scene because it captures the emotion of the story so well.

But the thing that most fans are upset about is that this song can mean that The Hunger Games will not be fully composed. You cannot compare The Hunger Games to Harry Potter. And you certainly cannot say The Hunger Games is like Twilight because it has songs with actual lyrics in it. The Hunger Games is going to use music in their own way, not the Twilight or Harry Potter way, and it is unfair to expect it to.

Lionsgate, so far, has done a brilliant job promoting the film. Despite being annoyed by having “Hunger Games Water,” it got fans talking. At first, everyone hated the idea of Hunger Games Nail Polish, but Lionsgate stuck Effie’s face on a poster promoting it and fans loved it.

And most of all, fans are upset by the promotion of the love triangle. I don’t think we need to be worried about the love triangle within the movies themselves. Suzanne Collins is very closely involved with the script and I do not believe she would let it take over the movie — just like how she did not let it take over her books.

But with marketing? I do not believe Suzanne has much control of how Katniss, Peeta, and Gale are positioned in every picture. And everybody loves a good love story, so it will sell. Watch the trailer again, because there is no hint of a love triangle in it.

In all, fans need to realize that this movie will be promoted and created in its own way. It cannot follow a particular formula based off of the success of Harry Potter and Twilight. I believe come March, The Hunger Games is going to be more well-known and popular because Lionsgate is promoting it so that more than just fans of the books will notice it. Lionsgate has to create a larger fandom so that similar to Harry Potter and Twilight, everyone will know what you’re talking about when you mention The Hunger Games. Because as of now, there are still those who have never heard of this series.
