The official The Host Facebook page has released a new movie still. Now that fans saw The Host footage at Comic-Con, we now have clues as to where the stills fit in context.

The Twilight Lexicon has a rundown of where all of the stills fit in. This is how it described the newest still (seen above) that was released.

The Seeker asks Wanderer to probe Melanie’s memory to discover where the renegades are. After a moment of resistance she gives up Jamie’s name and Melanie’s inner voice screams at her in defiance. Then she sees this entire montage of Melanie’s past life from happy days with her dog, to swimming with Jamie, to hooking up with Jared (of note she doesn’t mention Jared’s name). The above stills are part of the Jared flashback. They are in front of an RV in the middle of nowhere and Melanie and Jared are swing dancing while Jamie holds the boom box (first photo). In fact the dance sequence is almost identical to the Breaking Dawn wedding where Jackson flips Ashley upside down. It then starts to rain and they all go to rush inside. Jamie goes in first but Jared stops Melanie at the door and he gives her a passionate kiss as she is backed up against the trailer.

So far the film hasn’t done much with its official website. Its Facebook and Twitter pages are more active.

The stills’ context should be helpful to both fans and non-fans alike. Several outlets have reported that the reaction of fans to the footage shown was mixed. This was largely due to the lack of context presented to the attendees in Hall H by both director Andrew Niccol and author Stephenie Meyer. They seemingly made the assumption that the Twilight fans in the audience were all highly familiar with the material, and this was not the case. Additionally, the back of Hall H was filled with Tim Burton fans waiting to see the Frankenweenie panel. Needless to say, they were even more mystified.

Jen Yamato from Movieline summed it up succinctly, stating:

By the time the reel ended with a car chase and stand-off between two rebel-driven trucks and their alien overlords, the crowd had grown restless, pouring disinterestedly out of Hall H. And all without even touching on film’s love quadrangle between Melanie, Wanderer, and their dueling boyfriends!

So suffice to say there’s a steep Host learning curve the studio needs to address for non-fans of the book ahead of the film’s March 2013 release.
