Are you shocked to hear that the final film in The Hobbit trilogy will have an extended edition?

Of course you’re not.

But today we’re learning some early details about The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’ extended cut thanks to Peter Jackson.

Speaking to media recently, the director of The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films revealed that the Battle of the Five Armies extended edition will add “about” 30 minutes of footage. As to what will be in that extended edition we’re not entirely sure, but Jackson did mention it “will have some Beorn stuff.”

Last week we told you that The Battle of the Five Armies’ theatrical cut clocks in at two hours and 24 minutes, meaning that the extended edition will be flirting with the three hour mark when it hits DVD/Blu-ray around this time next year.

Since The Battle of the Five Armies is the final film in The Hobbit saga (and supposedly the final Middle Earth film ever), you can bet that Peter Jackson will be working on a box set to house all three Hobbit movies.

We wouldn’t be surprised if a box set holding all of the Middle Earth movies was released as well.

Considering most people probably already have The Lord of the Rings extended editions, chances are most people are looking to buy a Hobbit-only boxset.

Jackson hinted this year that the collection of all three films could be titled “There and Back Again,” the original title of the third Hobbit movie before it was changed to Battle of the Five Armies.

While we’re on the subject, what say you? Would you want to grab a complete box set which includes only The Hobbit, or one that also holds The Lord of the Rings? Let us know in the comments – Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is depending on you!
