If you’ve long-awaited a The Heat sequel starring Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock, we’ve got good news and bad news.

Since the film debuted in 2013, fans have been wanting a sequel, especially since Director Paul Feig said it was a possibility we’d get one eventually.

Den of Geek spoke with Screenwriter Katie Dippold about the possibility, and she said they do have a script written for the followup comedy. The only problem?

“We can’t get [Sandra Bullock] to do a sequel. She doesn’t want to do another sequel in her life. But I love her and I think she’s so funny, so I’m always hoping she will change her mind because I think she’s so awesome.”

The Heat grossed $230 million worldwide, so it’s possible a sequel could be just as popular if the script was strong enough.

Speaking of, Den of Geek also got Dippold to tell them what the story would be about: “I really love this sequel. It’s them kind of going after the Red Falls Killer from the first movie. So it’s putting them in the Silence of the Lambs world. I think it’d be really fun, so I’m still hoping maybe she’ll change her mind at some point.”

Melissa McCarthy is, perhaps, more popular than ever after her recent string of comedies like Tammy and Spy, not to mention her role in this year’s Ghostbusters reboot film.

Bullock has been a little quieter on the film front, but last year saw her taking on Our Brand is Crisis and Minions.

Regardless, Bullock and McCarthy’s comedy chemistry is off the charts, and with Paul Feig at the helm, the actress will have little to worry about in a The Heat sequel, especially if fans are still clamoring for the movie three years later.

Now’s probably a good time to (kindly, respectfully) let the actress know how much you’d love to see The Heat 2.
