The Grudge released a new red band trailer, and it is absolutely terrifying and super gory. Watch this one with the lights on, friends.

The Grudge is back, and whether you’re new to the franchise, you loved the movies from the 00s, or you’re a fan of the original Japanese film Ju-On, the new red band trailer for Sam Raimi’s new Grudge movie will get you excited (and super freaked out) about the return of these movies. Take a peek at the new red band trailer, though let us offer this quick content warning for blood and gore.

If you’ve checked out the original movies in The Grudge franchise, you’ll recall that those movies were rated PG-13. And after watching this trailer for Raimi’s new version, it’s clear why this movie has earned an R-rating. True to form, Sam Raimi doesn’t hold anything back when it comes to the gore in this movie.

Sam Raimi’s version of The Grudge is based on the original Japanese film, Ju-On: The Grudge. It centers around a home that is haunted by the specters of individuals who were killed in the grip of a powerful rage, and now anyone who enters the home finds that the home’s curse follows them until it ultimately claims their lives.

In the trailer, we see a police officer who approaches the home to ask a woman questions regarding an ongoing investigation. However, things soon turn terrifying when the woman turns to reveal her haggard, bloody appearance, that her fingers have been cut off (which is extra creepy given her request for the cop to feed her), and as the police officer turns to leave when she fears there is someone else is in the house, she stumbles upon a very decayed corpse in the living room.

And if gore isn’t the thing that gets you really spooked, the trailer also shows John Cho showering and peeking out of the curtain when he hears the trademark groan from ghosts on The Grudge. After he doesn’t see anything, he returns to his shower, only for a shot to be revealed of a hand coming out of the back of his head.

Suffice it to say, this trailer is super terrifying, and it sets the stage for what is sure to be a delightfully horrifying movie. And we love Raimi’s choice to base his film on the source material, the original Ju-On, rather than continuing the remade American franchise. This will be one horror fans won’t want to miss.

And even better, we don’t have to wait much longer for this movie. Sam Raimi’s version of The Grudge will open in movie theaters everywhere on January 3.
