ABC is committing to The Good Doctor, a new medical drama starring Freddie Highmore, Antonia Thomas and Richard Schiff.

Main takeaway from this story: If you want your TV show to be successful, literally put the word “good” in the title.

Variety reports that freshman drama The Good Doctor has scored a full-season pickup at ABC, after only airing two episodes.

Written and executively produced by David Shore and counting Daniel Dae Kim, David Kim and Sebastian Lee among its execs, The Good Doctor stars all-grown-up Charlie and the Chocolate Factory actor Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome.

The series is an early hit for the network, with 11.2 million viewers tuning in for the premiere episode.

ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey says of the pickup:

“We are thrilled to announce that we are giving our viewers additional episodes of The Good Doctor. We have an amazing team in front of and behind the camera, led by Freddie Highmore’s incredibly nuanced performance as Dr. Shaun Murphy, and we’re confident the show will continue to captivate our audience.”
