New images from The Giver have been released that give us the first good look at Taylor Swift in the role of Rosemary.

The Giver is set to be released this August, and the promotional campaign surrounding its release has been one of the more interesting campaigns in recent memory.

When the first images and trailer were released, fans were in an uproar because presenting The Giver in color would go against the content in the book. In the novel, people in the future cannot see color along with feeling almost any kind of emotion.

But promotion for The Giver has to entice more people to see the movie than just those who have read Lois Lowry’s classic novel. People who have never read the book would likely not understand why the film is in black and white, and, sadly, many would be turned off by it. Because of this, much of the promotion has been in color.

This color promotion continues with three new images. The images feature Katie Holmes and Alexander Skarsgård together as Jonas’ parents, Brenton Thwaites and Odeya Rush as Jonas and Fiona, and Jeff Bridges and Taylor Swift as The Giver and Rosemary.

Apart from a very quick glance in the trailer, this is our first good look at Taylor Swift as Rosemary.

Two other stills were also released depicting the other characters:

However, the film will not be entirely in color. As was revealed in a featurette in April, the film will contain black and white footage. The ratio is indeterminate, but we do know that there will be both black and white footage in The Giver, as well as color footage.

As it’s possible that the new images will actually be seen in black and white, we’ve taken away the color to give you an idea of what they’d look like otherwise.

Official synopsis:

The haunting story of The Giver centers on Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. The film is based on Lois Lowry’s beloved young adult novel of the same name, which was the winner the 1994 Newbury Medal and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
