We caught up with the cast of The Giver plus author Lois Lowry when they hit the red carpet at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and asked them what memory or feeling they would save if we were all forced to enter a community much like that in the book.

When we asked Brenton Thwaites, who plays Jonas in The Giver, what he would save, the Australia native took a thinking outside the box approach with his answer. “I would have to save the memory of skydiving” Thwaites told Hypable. “I would definitely keep that one — that was a pretty cool feeling.”

As The Giver himself, Jeff Bridges’ character is privy to many feelings and memories that most individuals in the community are not. But while the seasoned actor had trouble picking just one thing when we asked him what he would save, he finally settled on the feeling of love. “All the loving memories come to mind. The community that The Giver is based in has kind of done away with love because it’s dangerous — you know, as the song says, ‘love hurts,'” said Bridges. “But it’s also wonderful. That’s one of the themes of the movie — what price are you willing to pay for your comfort?”

Actress Odeya Rush, who plays Fiona in the film, also says she would save love if given the choice. “It’s so important — not just being in love but having love for anything,” explained Rush. “Having passion for anything is so important.”

Finally, the author herself, Lois Lowry, who walked the red carpet with Rush also chimed in and agreed with the young actress. “[Love] is what the people in the book have lost and they gain it back because of the boy.”

The Giver hits theaters on August 15, 2014.
