The first person we meet in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer is John Boyega, who has been mostly well received by fans. And he has a few choice words for the critics.

Did you catch the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens? If not, watch it right now!

A mysterious voice whispers, “There has been an awakening. Have you felt it?” as John Boyega’s character literally pops up on screen, wearing a Stormtrooper uniform and looking confused and/or afraid.

Boyega is playing a still-unnamed character in Episode VII, expected to be a good guy who’s either borrowed a Stormtrooper getup to escape the Empire, or is a Stormtrooper who is joining the Rebels.

On his Instagram, Boyega posted a response to fans thanking them for their support and their impressive fan art. However, following whining that Star Wars is adding a black Stormtrooper (seriously, what century is this?), Boyega has also added a small, perfectly worded, response to his critics:

With love xxx

The note reads:

“Thank you for all the love and support! The fan mail and fan art has added to my joy! Isn’t it crazy that Star Wars is actually happening? I’m in the movie but as a star wars fan I am very excited. A year is a long time but it will be worth the wait.

To whom it may concern: Get used to it. :)”

And not only is this a great, dignified way to respond to ridiculous complaints, but it’s also true. Get used to it – and go enjoy the movie.

Or, while we wait until December next year, re-watch the trailer over and over and over again.

The Hollywood Reporter has some impressive numbers this morning: the Force Awakens trailer had a total of 42 million YouTube views in the first 72 hours. But let’s be honest, like 10,000 of those views were by you, wasn’t it?

Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens opens December 18, 2015.
