It’s a post-Joe Carroll world and with Theo on the loose, things are crazier than ever on The Following season 3, episode 11, “Demons.”

‘The Following’ season 3, episode 11 recap

Daisy is trying to convince Mark that there is more left for them than just avenging the deaths of their loved ones. Just when it looks like Daisy is getting through to him, Mike walks out of a nearby business and Mark leaps out of the car and approaches him ready to kill. Seconds before Mark would have pulled the trigger, Daisy jumps out and pushes him into an alcove. Mike’s protective detail would have killed him.

Gwen calls Max to let her know that Ryan’s started drinking again and she broke up with him. Max heads over to their place immediately and suggests she and Ryan hit up an AA meeting. Max then starts talking about the lead that Joe gave Ryan about Theo’s origins. When Ryan sees the information she has, he finally looks motivated and goes to shower and get back to work.

Daisy tracked down someone that helped them set up things before, Silas, and Mark manipulates him into helping by threatening him. They need help tracking the digital footprint of the laptop to see if whomever has been spying on Max would be up to help them take down Mike.

Ryan suggests to Mike and Max that they talk to someone who investigated a serial killer named the Mad Man who was active in Philadelphia during the time of Theo’s family’s murder. Her name is Lisa Campbell.

Ryan thinks that if they solve the Mad Man case and reveal the real culprit, then Theo go after him to avenge his family. Lisa agrees and decides to give Ryan access to all her files on the cold case.

While looking through the photos of the Mad Man cases, Ryan notices a service van that is sitting outside one of the victims’ houses. He immediately wonders if that could have been how the Mad Man got access to his victims, by posing as a service person.

Theo and his sister are still on the road after being dismissed by the mansion’s security, and he’s hacked into a limo rental service and found a client that looks eerily similar to them. Theo thinks this is their ticket into the mansion.

Lisa makes sure that Ryan knows she needs a clean conviction for the Mad Man. She wants to be by the book so there’s no possible means for him to escape justice on a technicality or something.

Mike gets a hit on their service worker theory by looking through old records and discovering that a man named Oleg Vukovich was working in the vicinity of at least four of the Mad Men murders. Max sends Ryan a picture and last known address on the guy. During the call, Ryan sees his ghost-Joe, and then he keeps the info he learned a secret from Lisa and takes off in their car.

Theo and his sister hijack the limo of the man to get the information they need about the host of the party, named Eliza. They intend to kill the passengers, so they make them undress before so they can don their clothes and attend the party in their places.

Ryan arrives at the house of Oleg Vukovich, and breaks in. The house is a pigsty and full of junk. Ryan discovers a staircase and descends to find some creepy drawings made of shattered mirror fragments. There’s also a book full of dark and terrifying images on the table in front of the drawings and a box full of audio recordings of chilling screams.

Ryan hears a noise and goes upstairs to investigate. A man attacks him, throws him back down the stairs, and then takes off into the night.

Lisa is NOT happy. Thanks to Ryan’s failure to follow protocol, he nearly got himself killed and he lost the suspect in the process.

Theo and Erin arrive at the ‘party’ and find a whole host of people in erotic clothes positioned throughout the party. A white bracelet they took off the limo victims gets them upstairs to a private party full of rooms in which people are murdering others. A couple of quick guards’ deaths gets Theo and Erin to this elusive Eliza that they’ve been looking to meet.

Theo asks Eliza if she would be interested in taking out Ryan Hardy. He is offering to take down Ryan and bring him to her, dead or alive, without her having to put herself at risk for exposure. He leaves her his card.

Back at the Motel, Lisa arrives and gives Ryan a pass for bungling Oleg’s arrest. Ryan has discovered that Oleg is incredibly disturbed, and he breaks the mirrors because he believes they are gateways to hell and he’s not ready to return yet.

Oleg shows up at the motel and kills the clerk, smashing a mirror behind the desk. He looks up Ryan and Lisa’s room numbers and shows up in Lisa’s room while she’s in the shower. Ryan goes down to the front desk and discovers the dead clerk and broken mirror and immediately runs back upstairs to help.

Lisa fights off Oleg, and Ryan arrives in time to stop him, but after a couple hard hits to his head, Oleg is out cold. Lisa stops Ryan before he can kill Oleg.

Ryan questions Oleg about Theo’s family’s murders. Oleg is quiet until Ryan tries to use the mirror against him. Oleg tells Ryan that Theo was his friend. He sensed that Theo was like him and he was asked to come and murder the family by Theo. He spared Theo and his little adopted sister only because Theo asked him to.

Daisy uses a dated website to contact Theo for help, and she warns Mark that he’s possibly the scariest guy she’s ever met.

Tom sees his secrets going up in smoke when the agent investigating the safe house raid shows up at his door. When she discovers via a second report that Tom was the agent alone on the second floor, they fight over the gun she draws and he accidentally kills her. He panics.

Ryan returns home to find his apartment void of any and everything of Gwen’s. Joe appears and tells him he’s better off without her, then asks for a drink.
