Excellent news, Flash and Supergirl fans! That crossover we’ve been hearing rumors about is happening.

Update (6:30 p.m.): Grant Gustin has posted a picture of his Supergirl script on Instagram, giving us the episode title:

Really really. Flash is about to meet Supergirl. @melissabenoist

What’s particularly noteworthy about this title, besides the reference to the iconic comic series, is the lack of apostrophe on “worlds,” implying The Flash and Supergirl come from different worlds — and are the finest of their respective worlds.

In the DC Comics, the original World’s Finest comics featured Batman and Superman, DC’s leading superheroes. Early issues also featured Robin. The New 52 rebooted the series as Worlds’ Finest and starred Power Girl and Huntress from Earth-2.

Original story (2:24 p.m.):Look out, National City! The Flash‘s Grant Gustin will be appearing on Supergirl as Barry Allen/The Flash. The episode will air on Monday, March 28 on CBS.

Further details about the crossover are being kept under wraps for now, though we theorized a few ways this crossover could work here. It will be exciting to see this crossover play out, as it could have major implications for the Arrow-verse.

“We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we starting making SupergirlThe Flash and Supergirl are teaming up!” said The Flash and Supergirl executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg in a statement.

“We want to thank Grant Gustin for making the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and DC for working this out. And finally, thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen. It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone’s enthusiasm and support.”

With the same creative teams working on both the Arrow-verse and Supergirl and CBS co-owning The CW, there have long been rumors that Supergirl and one or more Arrow-verse series might cross over. The Flash has always seemed like the most likely choice, as the two shows are the closest in tone and The Flash has introduced the concept of alternate Earths, which would explain some of the differences in the two worlds as they have currently been laid out, such as aliens vs. metahumans and Superman being an active hero in the Supergirl world.

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8:00 p.m. ET on CBS. The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.

Are you looking forward to seeing ‘The Flash’ and ‘Supergirl’ cross over?
