The Flash is upgrading his suit, and we’re getting our first look at his new threads.

The Flash‘s season 5 trailer previewed that Barry would be getting a new suit from his daughter from the future, Nora, in a “fan favorite” manner:

The Flash Ring is indeed a fan favorite; in fact, it dates back to 1956’s Showcase #4. The ring is spring-loaded, allowing Barry to conceal his costume within while operating as a civilian. With the ring, Barry can keep his suit close in case of emergency. The suit was chemically-treated to shrink and fit within.

And now we’re getting a look at what the suit within the ring looks like. Gustin posted a teaser on Instagram after a candid photo of the suit leaked:

“Was given the ‘ok’ to give you guys a little bonus sneak peek. I took this shot late last night during our night shoot. I was clearly feeling myself. I truly love this suit,” he wrote.

The CW, meanwhile, released an official look at the new Flash suit with a season 5 poster:

“First OFFICIAL look at Barry’s new threads for season 5,” Gustin wrote in a separate post.

The most noticeable change in the new suit is the absence of the chin strap. Seeing the suit in action will be the best test of the new look, though.

While Gustin is thrilled with his new costume, he was not pleased when the candid photo was leaked earlier this week — or the body shaming of his thin frame that followed. Comments followed about Gustin not having the physique or jawline to pull off the new suit, based on the leaked photo.

In response, Gustin posted a statement on Instagram responding to the controversy, writing, “So here’s the thing about this bullshit photo leak. It’s a cool suit. That’s a terrible photo that I was unaware was being taken, much less being posted. Some things need work and they will be worked on. We’ll get there.”

He went on to address the body shaming, saying “That’s what pisses me off. Not even just for my sake. I’ve had 20+ years of kids and adults telling me or my parents I was too thin. I’ve had my own journey of accepting it.”

He called out the double standard of being able to talk openly about men’s bodies, noting, “I do my best to stay in shape and add as much size as I can through out these seasons. I’m naturally thin, and my appetite is greatly affected by stress. Stress is something that ebbs and flows for me throughout a season. Thus, gaining weight is a challenge for me.”

Gustin wrote that he’s “happy with my body and who I am and other kids who are built like me and thinner than me should be able to feel the same way. Not only that, but they should be able to feel like they could be a superhero on tv or film or whatever it may be someday.”

He closed by reiterating that the new suit for season 5 is great: “I love the suit that has been designed for me, and I think when everyone sees it in its entirety, you will love it too. Things have been adjusted since that leaked shot was taken, and more things will continue to be adjusted until it feels right.”

While leaks happen, we need to remember that, as Gustin says, adjustments are being made. We won’t see the final product, which includes special effects, until the episode airs.

The leaks can serve as fun teasers for fans, but when the fan response to such images is loud and personal enough that an actor must address his or her body, we’ve clearly lost sight of the fun.

Gustin has been a graceful and gracious lead of The Flash since his casting five years ago, and fans need to remember that there is a person under the cowl. There is a person in those pictures. Let’s have fun — that’s what fandom is for, after all — but let’s not forget our decency in the process.

The Flash season 5 premieres Tuesday, October 9 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
