With The Flash season 5 premiering in under a month, we have five burning questions about the new season we want answered.

The synopsis for The Flash season 5 reads:

Matching wits with The Thinker, who by season’s end had harnessed the powers of all twelve bus metas he created, stretched Team Flash to their limits, but with the help of some new allies, Barry Allen (aka The Flash) and company were able to put a stop to the Enlightenment and save Central City once again. However, with the arrival of Barry and Iris’ speedster daughter, Nora, who arrived from the future admitting to having made a “big mistake,” things are anything but status quo. Will parenthood be the challenge that finally slows The Flash down?

With that in mind, we have five questions about the upcoming season we need to know the answers to.

Why is Nora close to Barry but distant from Iris?

The introduction of Barry and Iris’s daughter, Nora, won’t mean a happy West-Allen family in The Flash season 5. Rather, Nora will only be close to one of her parents. “Well, we’re really getting along,” Grant Gustin tells EW, “and it’s great.”

“So well.” Jessica Parker Kennedy adds. “Total daddy’s girl.”

Meanwhile, Iris will be excited to get to know her daughter. “And I think that, as we hinted in the finale last season, that’s kind of met with some coldness from Nora. Which we’ll get into later in the season, why there’s some distance in between the two of them,” Candice Patton adds.

“But it’s been really interesting to play this dynamic of Iris really wanting to enjoy this time with her daughter, and figuring out why Nora’s kind of not into that.”

So, why will Nora be distant from her mother but close to her father? Is the mother-daughter dynamic strained in the future? Or has something happened to Iris that makes Nora shy around her in 2018?

How will the introduction of baby Jenna Marie West change things?

In the season 4 finale, Cecile gave birth to her and Joe’s daughter, Jenna Marie West. According to new series regular Danielle Nicolet, “Cecile used to be a super normal person and then she started dating this guy, and now she has super powers and a baby and a grandchild that’s older than her grown kid,” Nicolet tells ComicBook.com.

“It’s complicated. You know when you date a guy and it’s like ‘alright, big Italian family’ with Joe West it’s like, ‘Okay, big metahuman family.'”

So, how will the introduction of a new baby change the dynamics of the West-Allen family/Team Flash? What will it mean for Cecile and Joe to be new parents again after having raised children into adulthood already? And how will that affect their work in Central City?

What’s up with Caitlin and Killer Frost?

We discovered at the end of season 4 that Caitlin had blocked out a memory of channeling Killer Frost’s powers as a child. But that meant she didn’t get her frosty alter-ego in the particle accelerator explosion like Barry and Cisco got their powers.

So, how did Caitlin come to get her powers, and what does that mean about metahumans in general? Most of the ones we’ve met have either gained their abilities from a specific source like the particle accelerator or Philosopher’s Stone or have come from another Earth entirely.

We’re also going to meet Caitlin’s father this season — what will we learn from him?

How will the new Wells shake things up?

With Harry leaving Earth-1 to reunite with his daughter, there is a Wells-shaped hole in Team Flash. This season, that hole will be filled by Sherloque Wells, who is described as “a master detective from a different earth.”

Sherloque has “come to help [the team] track down Cicada,” executive producer Todd Helbing tells TVLine. He’s pretty awesome at his job, and Ralph doesn’t take too kindly to somebody that has skills that may or may not be better than his.”

Besides irritating Ralph, how will Sherloque affect the dynamics among Team Flash?

What is Cicada’s master plan?

Though the Cicada who appears on The Flash won’t exactly mirror his comic book alter ego, he will still pose a significant threat to Central City and metahumans as a whole.

This version of Cicada is described as “a grizzled, blue-collar everyman whose family has been torn apart by metahumans” who “now seeks to exterminate the epidemic — one metahuman at a time.”

Therefore, “[h]is endgame isn’t about The Flash. It’s more of a bigger-scale issue,” Helbing tells TVLine. “A big part of the story of this season [is about] the metas, where they got their powers from, and it’s tied into everybody’s journey this year.”

“Cicada’s powers are different than DeVoe’s [and] any of the speedsters in the way they affect our team.”

So, why does Cicada want to eradicate metahumans? And how will Team Flash stop him?

The Flash season 5 premieres Tuesday, October 9 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
