We’re still a few weeks away from The Flash season 2’s mid-season premiere, but we’ve gotten some news about a major return in the second half.

Robbie Amell will appear in an upcoming episode of The Flash, but not as the doomed Ronnie Raymond who perished when he and Martin Stein used the power of Firestorm to close the singularity over Central City. Rather, EW reports that he’ll be appearing as Earth-2’s Ronnie Raymond.

“We are beyond excited to have Robbie back on The Flash,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says. “You can’t keep a good Firestorm down. Only this time, he’s back with a twist, a deadly Earth-Two version of our beloved Ronnie in the form of Deathstorm.”

In the DC Comics, Ronnie Raymond is resurrected as a member of the Black Lantern Corps during the Blackest Night event (in which Nekron, an embodiment of death, reanimates dead superheroes to eliminate all life from the universe). The reanimated Ronnie absorbs the current Firestorm, Jason Rusch. Ronnie is eventually truly restored to life and Ronnie and Jason are separated, but the Black Lantern Firestorm still exists in the Firestorm Matrix and eventually takes form. This is Deathstorm.

In other Flash news, another deceased character who will return is Matt Letscher’s Eobard Thawne, aka The Reverse Flash, reports EW. In season 1, Letscher portrayed the original form of Eobard Thawne before he killed Harrison Wells and took over his form. However, because Eddie Thawne killed himself and erased Eobard from existence, it seems likely this will be the Earth-2 version of Eobard Thawne.

Executive producer Todd Helbing, who penned Eobard’s return alongside Aaron Helbing, teases, “His impossible return to Central City puts a member of the S.T.A.R. Labs team in unexpected danger, forcing Barry to make a life-changing decision.”

Letscher will guest star in episode 11, appropriately titled “The Reverse-Flash Returns.”

The Flash returns with new episodes on Tuesday, January 19 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
