Former WWE superstar Adam Copeland will appear in The Flash season 2 as Atom Smasher.

Copeland, who went by the alias Edge in the WWE, will appear in The Flash‘s season 2 premiere. The CW describes the character as follows:

“One of the most powerful enemies we encounter this season, Atom Smasher has come to Central City to kill The Flash. His incredible strength and ability to grow to enormous size makes him more than a match for Flash and the entire S.T.A.R. Labs team will have to come together to find a way to defeat him.”

In the DC comics, Atom Smasher is the alter ego of Albert Rothstein. Rothstein was mentioned in season 1 as a fatality of the particle accelerator explosion. Considering Ronnie Raymond was also counted as a fatality, perhaps we’ll be seeing more of those assumed dead, now with powers.

Curiously, Atom Smasher was a hero in the comics. However, after the death of his mother, he took a dark turn and went back in time to save her.

Copeland, after retiring from the WWE, had a recurring role on Haven.

The Flash season 2 will pick up a couple of months after the season 1 finale. “We deal with the fallout of the cataclysm that happened at the end of the year,” says executive producer Greg Berlanti. “As we used the particle accelerator to introduce the metahuman, we’ll be introducing characters from Earth 2 on the show.”

Besides Lewis Snart, Captain Cold and Golden Glider’s father, season 2 will also introduce Jay Garrick, Patty Spivot, Wally West, and Zoom. Jay Garrick will be played by Teddy Sears, and Patty Spivot by Shantel VanSanten. No casting was announced for Wally or Zoom.
