Warner Brothers’ stand alone The Flash film has found its newest cast member in actress Maribel Verdú.

According to Variety, Maribel Verdú has officially signed on to join the cast of The Flash in what seems to be fairly significant role.

Specifically, the Y Tu Mama Tambien vet will be taking on the role of Barry Allen’s mother.

Interestingly, news of the speedster superhero’s mother playing a pivotal role in the stand alone DCEU feature also comes with word that The Flash has lost a previously announced cast member.

Back in October, we learned that actor Billy Crudup was in talks to reprise his Justice League role as Barry Allen’s wrongly incarcerated father for The Flash.

Unfortunately, it seems as though Crudup won’t be able to reprise his role as Harry Allen due to scheduling conflicts with his prior commitment for the Apple TV+ original series, The Morning Show.

As much as fans of the superhero might have been looking forward to seeing how the solo flick would have expanded on Barry’s relationship with his dad, we’re sure they’ll be equally as interested to see how his mother fits into the fold of things.

Verdú joins Ezra Miller, who has been locked in to reprise Justice League his role as the titular superhero since the long-gestating project was first announced to be in development back in 2015.

Other notable names who are also attached to co-star in the DCEU film include Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton, both of whom will reprise their roles as Batman.

Behind the camera, the task of helming the forthcoming superhero movie, which is set to explore DC’s Flashpoint comic series, will fall to It: Chapter 2 director, Andy Muschietti.

The Flash is slated speed onto the silver screen sometime in 2022.
