Robbie Amell will be joining The Flash in a recurring role.

Amell will be playing Ronnie Raymond, known to DC Comics fans as one half of the hero named Firestorm, reports TV Guide.

On The Flash, Ronnie will be a maintenance worker at S.T.A.R. Labs as well as Caitlin Snow’s (Danielle Panabaker) fiancé. Though we have been led to believe that Caitlin’s fiancé died in the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator explosion, it seems his fate may not be so straight forward after all.

Ronnie will play an “integral part” in the accident that gives Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) his speedster powers. He will make his debut in the third episode of The Flash.

In the comics, Ronnie is a high school student who, alongside physicist Martin Stein, is caught in a nuclear explosion that allow him to fuse with Martin into the hero known as Firestorm.

“Geoff Johns, Andrew Kreisberg and myself designed the pilot and series to include Ronnie (aka Firestorm) — and to actually have someone with Robbie’s talent playing the role is beyond exciting,” says executive producer Greg Berlanti. “We can’t wait for viewers and fans of the character to check it out.”

Amell, who starred in the short-lived Tomorrow People, is the cousin of Arrow star Stephen Amell. “I’m so excited to join forces with Greg Berlanti and The CW again on The Flash,” he says. “Being brought into the DC Universe is a dream, I can’t wait to get started!”

Amell’s other credits include Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous, 1600 Penn, Revenge, and Alcatraz.

The Flash premieres Tuesday, October 7 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
