In The Flash season 1, episode 15, “Out of Time,” there were some shocking revelations that will affect the series from here on out.
The Flash season 1, episode 15, “Out of Time,” was a major game-changer for the rest of the season. We look at our top five shockers.
Iris has feelings for Barry…
Okay, so this isn’t exactly a shocker, considering the way Iris has been acting since Barry confessed his feelings toward her. However, the big surprise came at the end of the episode when, under the threat of impending death by tsunami, Iris finally came to terms with her feelings for Barry and the two kissed. Barry’s feelings aren’t unrequited after all.

… and Eddie isn’t okay with it
Eddie and Linda were party to an awkward double date in which Barry and Iris were uncomfortably familiar with each other. And Eddie made his feelings about that clear to Iris. But why is this a big revelation? Eddie has been a popular suspect in fan speculation for becoming a villain, considering his last name belongs to Barry’s biggest rogue from the comics, Eobard Thawne. Iris’ feelings for Barry seem likely to push Eddie toward the dark side.

Barry can travel through time
This wasn’t exactly news either, as we already knew that an adult version of Barry was present the night Nora Allen was murdered. However, the big surprise was when Barry inadvertently traveled through time when trying to stop a tsunami from hitting Central City and landed himself a few days earlier.
While this likely means the Barry/Iris revelations are moot, it also allows Barry to save Cisco’s life by changing the course of events surrounding Mark Mardon’s appearance. It’s more than likely Cisco’s fate won’t be the only thing to change, though.
Harrison Wells killed Nora Allen…

Joe West was suspicious of Harrison for this very crime earlier this season and even enlisted Cisco’s help in trying to determine the truth. Though the evidence seemed to exonerate Wells, he confessed to Cisco that he did indeed kill Nora Allen 15 years ago, though he’d been trying to kill Barry rather than his mother.
But why was he trying to kill Barry, who he has taken under his wing and helped grow and evolve as a hero?
… because Harrison Wells is Eobard Thawne
That’s right, we finally learned Harrison Wells’ true identity: Eobard Thawne, the Reverse Flash. In the DC Comics, Eobard Thawne came from the 25th century and was so obsessed with Barry Allen that he traveled into the past to meet him and even had plastic surgery to look more like him. Eobard Thawne, upon learning that he was destined to become Barry’s greatest nemesis, went insane.
Wells revealed himself to Cisco, whose suspicions about his mentor had reached critical levels since Joe brought up the possibility. He also admitted that Eddie Thawne is a “distant relative.” However, Wells couldn’t allow anyone to know his true identity and that he has malicious intentions for the Flash, so he killed Cisco.
Of course, with Barry’s time travel, both this revelation and this murder are likely to be — wait for it — reversed.
With this in mind…
We now have to wonder what sticks with Barry’s trip into the past, and what answers are only there for the audience.
“The ramifications of this episode are the fun of episode 16, and seeing exactly what happened in 15, how much of it still happens and how much of it might possibly change,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg teases. “It’s sort of the advantage of having a show that dabbles in time travel; this episode allowed us to give people a tease and a taste and make some big reveals, because, as always, we try to not keep every secret all the time.
“We try to dole some stuff out and start giving the audience some of the answers that I think they’ve been craving, because there are still plenty of things that have been unsaid — what Wells really wants for Barry ultimately and how things are going to play out — but this episode just felt like an amazing opportunity to do some crazy stuff.”
Crazy indeed!
