For those of you who aren’t familiar with the series, The Enchantress is the last book in a six book series, called The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel. And yes, Harry Potter fans, it’s the same Nicholas Flamel from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s/Philosopher’s Stone.

The series follows the lives of Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel, who some people may be familiar with. It is an old legend that Nicholas and Pernelle learned how to brew the Elixir of Life, making them immortal. Their house, located in France, is a popular tourist attraction for people who believe in the ancient legend.

Nicholas and Pernelle, living in San Francisco, are enduring a search for the gold and silver twins – the twins of legend. These twins are said to have unimaginable powers, stronger than any other human (or creature) on Earth. They believe it is their purpose to find them and train them for what fate will bring to them in the future.

In the first book of the series, The Alchemyst, Nicholas and Perenelle believe they have found the twins of legend; twins Josh and Sophie Newman, who wondered into their bookstore one evening in San Francisco looking for jobs. Going purely off of belief they are the twins of legend, they risk not only their own, but Josh and Sophie’s lives to take them to the ancient goddess Hekate and awaken their powers.

*Warning: Minor spoilers ahead*

In the final book of the series, The Enchantress, (released May 22, 2012) Josh and Sophie are sent back in time to the ancient Island of Danu Talis, also known as the Lost City of Atlantis. “One to save the world, the other to destroy it” is the prophecy repeated to the twins time and time again. Now, brought back in time to the forbidden battle of Danu Talis, they must decide whether to save Danu Talis or destroy it.

With an absolutely brilliant plot twist and ending, The Enchantress gets off to a slow start, but is certainly fulfilling to any fan of the series. If you have the time, I definitely recommend picking up the first of the series, The Alchemyst.
