What has long been rumored is now reality. The Elder Scrolls franchise is making the jump from expansive single-player RPG to an MMO with The Elder Scrolls Online with Zenimax Online Studios behind the project.

The game was revealed today as the cover story for the June issue of Game Informer.

The Elder Scrolls Online will be set a thousand years before Skyrim and will take place “across the entire land of Tamriel” with the story centering on the daedric prince Molag Bal and his plot to “pull all of Tamriel into his demonic realm.”

Details to be covered in the reveal include soloing, public questing and a new player-vs-player system with three player groups battling over sections of land or power.

“The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise,” game director Matt Firor told Game Informer.

The game is scheduled to release in 2013 for PC and Mac.

More will be revealed in a brief teaser trailer tomorrow, according to GI.

It only seemed natural that The Elder Scrolls series was a perfect fit for an MMO. Are you excited to finally be able to explore the lands of Tamriel with thousands of other players?
