Spells, backstory, and the questionable ideas of an elf are in store in new The Dragon Prince books from Scholastic.

Netflix and Wonderstorm’s popular animated series, The Dragon Prince, grows from the screen to the page this year, with three new books set in the magical world of Xadia. Appealing to fans of all ages, the books will augment the stories fans already love — and hint at what might be coming in The Dragon Prince season 4.

“We are thrilled to be able to give the fans these three books with new stories, original artwork, and never-before-revealed details and insights,” say Aaron Ehasz and Justin Richmond, co-creators of The Dragon Prince. “Like the show, the books are for a wide age range and give fans a ton of new, insider information about the characters and the world they inhabit.”

The first book from Scholastic and Wonderstorm, Callum’s Spellbook, arrives on March 3. Written by Tracey West, the book is set up as Callum’s in-world journal in which he documents his journey to Xadia.

Callum’s Spellbook features original concept art from The Dragon Prince, new details on his world’s magic and monsters, and cheeky notations from Ezran, Rayla, Claudia, and Soren, who definitely respect Callum’s space and property.

Next up is The Dragon Prince: Book 1: Moon, the official novelization of the first season of The Dragon Prince. Written by show runner Aaron Ehasz and Melanie McGanney Ehasz, the novelization promises an “epic” story that “takes readers beyond the frame of season one with deeper characterizations and expanded plotlines.”

In other words, if you’re seeking for an even deeper dive into the really juicy stuff, look no further! The Dragon Prince: Book 1: Moon will be released on June 2.

Finally, The Dragon Prince makes its first foray into graphic novels with Through the Moon, the official continuation of the story following the events of season 3. (Yes, that means new canon!)

In Through the Moon, Rayla is called to an ancient ritual at the Moon Nexus, seeking answers to her questions about Viren, her parents, and Runaan. The nexus, however, is apparently a portal to the realm between the living and the dead — not the kind of thing you start playing with lightly. With the power of the nexus so hard to control, Rayla soon puts her friends in mortal danger as she seeks the answers that (she thinks) will bring her peace.

Through the Moon is written by Peter Wartman, with a story by The Dragon Prince creators Aaron Ehasz and Justin Richmond. Illustrated by Xanthe Bouma, the first Dragon Prince graphic novel will be available on September 15.

“It’s exciting to be working closely with the creators and Wonderstorm.” says Debra Dorfman, Vice President and Publisher, Global Licensing, Brands and Media at Scholastic. “We love that families are watching this series together, and we can’t wait to bring all fans into the world of Xadia like never before.”
