The Defenders has added actresses Elodie Yung and Jessica Henwick to the burgeoning ranks of its cast.

The Defenders official Twitter feed announced today that Yung, who played Elektra in Daredevil season 2, will be joining the Avengers-esque series. The tweet includes a telling pulse line beneath the brief video.

The tagline attached to casting announcements for The Defenders, “The strong survive,” holds particular resonance for Elekta. Fulfilling her comic book destiny, Yung’s character died during her redemption arc in Daredevil season 2. But as was hinted at in the season’s final moments, the Hand clearly has a few thoughts on the matter of the permanence of death.

Especially where Elektra is concerned.

Last week, The Defenders Twitter feed revealed that Iron Fist will also enjoy further representation in the epic collaborative series. Jessica Henwick, who plays Colleen Wing, is on board the Defenders train as well.

The clip announcing her involvement reveals some delicious early footage of Henwick (who has appeared in The Force Awakens and Game of Thrones) kicking ass as Colleen.

In keeping with the motif of Iron Fist, Colleen Wing is a martial arts instructor — and clearly, she does a little more than just instruct.

Elodie Yung and Jessica Henwick join a cast bursting at the seams with awesome characters. In addition to its four central heroes, The Defenders will include a litany of the sidekicks we know and love (and occasionally love to hate.)

Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Wohl will represent Daredevil as Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, and Scott Glen as the ornery Stick. Jessica Jones is joined by her cohorts Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor,) Malcolm Ducasse (Eka Darville) as well as slippery lawyer Jerri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss.) From Luke Cage, Simone Missick will return as the indomitable detective Misty Knight.

And of course, the thread that links The Defenders together. Rosario Dawson will star as Claire Temple, which is a very good thing, because every one of these guys would literally die without her.

Marvel’s The Defenders hits Netflix in 2018.
