Marvel has announced that fan favorite characters from prior Netflix collaborations have joined up for The Defenders.
The Defenders‘ official Twitter account posted this morning that Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker), and Scott Glenn (Stick) will reprise their roles in the upcoming series.
“Old friendships die hard,” the account, rather ominously, announces.

Rosario Dawson’s return for The Defenders is no surprise, as Claire has consistently served as connective tissue between Manhattan’s heroes. (Usually while sewing up actual connective tissue.)
Dawson debuted in the role of Claire Temple in the first season of Daredevil and reprised the part in the second season. Claire enjoyed a brief-but-memorable turn in Jessica Jones, and wound up playing a major role in the latter part of Luke Cage.
Dawson is also set to star in the upcoming Iron Fist series, so it’s only natural that the lady who keeps our street-level heroes breathing will show up as these disparate characters come together.
The additions of Jessica Jones‘ Rachael Taylor and Daredevil‘s Scott Glenn add depth to other announced members of the cast. Yesterday, The Defenders‘ account revealed that Daredevil‘s Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) has joined the team, as have Carrie-Anne Moss (Jerri Hogarth) and Eka Darville (Malcolm) of Jessica Jones.
Moss appeared briefly in Daredevil season 2, recruiting Foggy to her prominent law firm. The teaser says, “Those who surround us, define us,” so it will be quite interesting to see how Hogarth’s cutthroat attitude will impact the disaffected Foggy.

And on Monday, the account revealed the addition of two more leading ladies to the cast. Daredevil‘s Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page) and Simone Missick (Misty Knight) of Luke Cage are also joining the Defenders party.

It’s not yet clear whether Danny Rand will be joined by other characters from Iron Fist in The Defenders, though it seems likely given the “more the merrier” approach the series seems to be taking.
And hey, no complaints here. All of the established Marvel/Netflix properties have cultured complex and compelling characters, who do, after all, share a city. It will be a fannish dream to see this rich palate of characters collide in the confines of The Defenders.
A brief preview for The Defenders was released at San Diego Comic-Con, and news recently broke that actress Sigourney Weaver will be playing the series’ as-yet-unnamed antagonist. The preview suggests that the team’s collaboration will be beset by difficulties, but we expect nothing less from this collection of lovable angst-machines!
Marvel’s The Defenders is coming to Netflix in 2017.
