‘The Dark Knight Rises’ – Blu-ray

From the opening scene it was clear that The Dark Knight Rises was meant to be watched in Blu-ray. The sounds, the music, the picture and the overall feel of the movie were dramatically enhanced compared to the traditional DVD experience. The Dark Knight Rises in Blu-ray format is as close as you will get to the true IMAX experience that millions of people enjoyed in theaters.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Special Features – Blu-ray

The Dark Knight Rises Special Features disc is full of extras that every Batman fan will be ecstatic to have. It includes extras broken down into a couple of sections: The Production, The Characters and Reflections. The Construction comes with some great behind-the-scenes footage including the construction of the Batcave and the difficulties of shooting with an IMAX camera. The Characters section comes with fantastic videos that take an in-depth look at the characters including the featurette “The Journey of Bruce Wayne,” which is also on the standard DVD. The Reflections section has some fantastic interviews with familiar faces with the Christopher Nolan interview being particularly interesting.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ second screen app

Available in the iOS App Store (iOS 5.0+) and for Samsung Galaxy devices including S2, S3, Note, Nexus and Tab (operating system requirements vary by device), is The Dark Knight Rises second screen app.

Connect your mobile device to the same network on which your Blu-ray player is playing The Dark Knight Rises and you can enjoy bonus content on your device while The Dark Knight Rises is playing on your television. The second screen app includes featurettes, scene explorer, character profiles, photo and video opps and flick-to-screen content.

While this is the ultimate experience for the ultimate Dark Knight fan, the second screen app can become somewhat of a distraction from the actual movie as it’s happening. Trivia, long paragraph quotes from cast and crew, and intricate detailed photos may require you to pause the movie to observe what’s on the app. If you’ve already seen the movie, as most superfans have, this may not be a problem. Otherwise, the content in the app is incredible first-class behind-the-scenes content that you don’t want to miss.

Another thing to note, the app clocks in at a whopping 182MB on the iOS App Store so be sure you have the capacity on your mobile device before you settle in on your couch to experience it!

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ – DVD

The Dark Knight Rises on standard DVD is everything you would expect it to be. The one additional feature of the DVD is a bonus featurette titled “The Journey of Bruce Wayne.” This featurette is a nine-minute video where Christopher Nolan, Jonathan Nolan, Christian Bale and others talk about the character of Bruce Wayne over the Dark Knight trilogy.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ UltraViolet

The Dark Knight Rises Blu-ray combo pack comes with a code to download the movie via UltaViolet so you can have a digital version on your mobile device. Though this may not seem like a huge feature, it is part of a complete experience that insists you don’t miss any Dark Knight Rises experiences. To be able to have access to this movie on most mobile devices at any time is something that a lot of people may take for granted but is a welcome feature for the price.
