Last year, The CW planned to add a pilot called The Selection to its line-up, but the project was scrapped. Now, it seems it’s been given a second chance!

SpoilerTV reports that in early 2013, after “heavy retooling,” The Selection will begin filming. Major announcements about this project are expected this fall.

The Selection is based on the dystopian fantasy novel of the same name by author Kiera Cass, which follows the young girl America Singer who, 300 years in the future, is selected to participate in a contest to marry the handsome Prince Maxon. But alas, she is already in love with a boy from her hometown called Aspen! Lots of love triangle, costume and drama possibilities, with a little flair of The Hunger Games thrown in, plus it fits into the trendy fairy tale genre – what’s not to like?

When The Selection was originally announced, it included Narnia star William Moseley and Friday Night Lights star Aimee Teegarden. Ethan Peck had been chosen to play Prince Maxon, while Sean Patrick Thomas was to be playing the Queen’s trusted adviser Sylvan Santos. It would have been written and produced by The Vampire Diaries‘ Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain (no word on whether they are still helming the project).

But as we reported, The CW rejected the show in favour of this fall’s new dramas Arrow, Cult, Emily Owens, MD., Carrie Diaries and Beauty and the Beast.

Following the surprising announcement, CW president Mark Pedowitz expressed his desire to see The Selection on the channel eventually, saying, “The cast is expected to change, but the CW and The Selection studio Warner Bros. TV are looking to keep the lead, Aimee Teegarden.” No word on William Moseley, but we can only hope that they’ll consider keeping him, too.

He also said that the show may be considered as a mid-season replacement. Which is probably not going to happen now, considering they’re filming in January (which is mid-season), but hopefully we will see it in the 2013 fall line-up.
