The CW is all about turning movies into TV shows: first it was The Notebook, and now it’s Friday the 13th.

Lots of interesting information about the upcoming TV season has come out of the Television Critics Association (TCA) panels!

Yesterday was The CW’s time to shine, and the network had some pretty cool reveals — not only is Matt Ryan’s Constantine character joining Arrow, but the network is adapting Nicolas Sparks’ The Notebook for the small screen.

Another cool announcement is less family friendly: CW president Mark Pedowitz tells Deadline that they are also working on a series based on the Friday the 13th franchise, which kicked off with the 1980 horror classic directed by Sean S. Cunningham.

Working on the pilot are Steve Mitchell and Craig Van Sickle, who created the 1996 NBC series The Pretender. Cunningham will serve as executive producer.

The Friday the 13th franchise centers on Jason Voorhees, a boy who drowned at Camp Crystal Lake and later causes a series of murders.

Jason shows up in all 12 movies in the series, either as the murderer, or the motivation for the murders.

The synopsis for the original film reads: “One summer at Camp Crystal Lake, a group of young counselors begin to get ready to lead campers. Unfortunately for the former, someone isn’t happy about what’s going on in the camp and enjoys playing kill the counselor. As bodies fall to the ground in the camp, no one is safe.”

As Jason is the character tying the stories together, we could imagine this as an American Horror Story-style anthology series, following a new group of unfortunate souls at Camp Crystal Lake every season.

It’ll be interesting to see what shape this story takes!
