The CW’s Batwoman has officially cast its villain. Rachel Skarsten will be facing down Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane in the series.

Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros Television have found their villain for their latest superhero series, Batwoman. Rachel Skarsten will be playing Alice, the arch-nemesis of Batwoman, aka Kate Kane (played by Ruby Rose).

As Deadline reports, Alice is out to disrupt the security of Gotham and wreaks havoc on the city with her Alice in Wonderland-inspired team, the Wonderland Gang. The character is equal parts charming and maniacal, and her relationship with Batwoman can be likened to Batman’s relationship with the Joker.

This isn’t the first time that Skarsten has worked in the DCTV space before. In the 2002 series Birds of Prey, Skarsten played Dinah Lance. The show was on television from 2002-2003, and aired on the CW predecessor the WB.

There isn’t a lot known about Alice just yet. Comic book fans know that Alice is quite close to Kate Kane, indeed. Though Kane doesn’t initially know it, Alice is her twin sister.

It’s unclear if the CW plans to use that familial tie. After all, the show has employed Nicole Kang to play Kate’s step-sister Mary Hamilton (a role created for the CW show). Either way, we’re excited to see one of Batwoman’s fiercest and most fascinating foes come to life on the small screen.

Batwoman is going to be a groundbreaking series for the CW, giving us the first superhero series with a gay lead character. Kate Kane is an out lesbian and will have an onscreen love interest in Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore. We’re so excited to see such an important step forward in the superhero universe, and we can’t wait to see how Skarsten’s Alice will play into the vigilante adventures.
