Babylon 5 is getting the reboot treatment over at The CW.

According to Variety, The CW is currently in the process of developing a reboot of the hit 90s sci-fi series, Babylon 5.

First premiering via TNT back in 1993, the critically acclaimed series ran for five seasons, amassing to 110 episodes in total, in addition to spawning a whopping seven made for TV movies.

Babylon 5 centered on an Earthforce officer with a mysterious background named John Sheridan, who found himself assigned to a 5-mile long space station called Babylon 5. Located in neutral space, the station served as a port of call for everything from travelers and diplomats, to explorers and smugglers.

When an exploratory Earth company accidentally starts a conflict with a civilization lightyears ahead, John Sheridan and the other Babylon 5 crew members are the only hope the human race has of surviving.

The CW is describing its new iteration of Babylon 5 as a “from-the-ground-up reboot.” Excitingly, they’re working with original series creator J. Michael Straczynski, who is already on board to write the reboot.

In addition to serving as writer on the reboot, Straczynski will also executive produce through Studio JMS. Warner Bros. Television, who produced the original series, will also produce on the reboot.

Currently, there’s no word on whether anyone else from the original Babylon 5 will sign on to return.
